The Sparwood Leisure Centre grounds are approximately 11.2 hectares in size and includes three contiguous park areas; Heritage Park at the north end, the Leisure Centre Grounds in the middle, and Lions Park to the south

The site is centrally located in the community at 367 Pine Avenue, occupying land between a residential area and the railway that runs along the Elk River.

Leisure Centre Grounds

The Leisure Centre Grounds currently has the following facilities and features: a wetland, bike park, 2 bocce courts, 8 horseshoe pits, 2 slopitch diamonds, running track, soccer field, basketball court, playground, spray park, washrooms, skate park, tennis courts, volleyball court, and informal picnic areas with play equipment. 

Leisure Centre Facility

The Leisure Centre building is located at the corner of Pine Avenue and Red Cedar Drive. It houses an arena, curling rink, fitness room, an all-season indoor pool (handicapped accessible), whirlpool, sauna, two racquetball – wallyball and squash courts, and a community hall. There is ample parking available for all indoor and outdoor users, with one parking lot at the main entrance to the north of the building and another to the south and west at the back of the building. The District offers a variety of leisure time programs which range from dance and fitness to skating, gymnastics and swimming. Recreational and cultural programs at the facility are sponsored by community groups throughout the year.


Our arena is home of the Sparwood Skating Club, Elk Valley Minor Hockey, Men’s and Ladies Hockey Teams, Public Skating and Shinny Hockey. During the summer we host indoor events such as Coal Miner Days, Canada Day Celebrations, Roller Derby Bouts, and much more!
