January 18, 2021 - Canfor will be harvesting trees on a Fire Interface Treatment Unit west of the Sparwood Heights starting Monday, January 18, 2021. Haulers will be accessing crown land through Sparwood Heights Drive via the Ski Hill Road and will be using the BC Hydro right of way past the Sparwood Heights Reservoir. Large logging trucks will be hauling for 3 to 4 weeks finishing the operation near the end of February. The District would like to remind residents walking in the area to have your pets on a leash and to be cautious with the increased traffic. Please watch for and obey posted trail closures during this period of time.
January 15, 2021 - Over the last few weeks, the Leisure Centre maintenance team has been quietly working on a special project, Sparwood's first skating trail. Once complete, there will be an approximately 400 meter track, about 2.5 – 3 meters wide that runs through Lions Park. This project is still under construction, but it looks promising and we hope that it will be safe to use soon. Feel free to visit Lions Park and have a look, but please do not attempt to skate on the track yet. It is not safe for use at this time.
Notice is hereby given that an electronic Public Hearing will be held on Tuesday February 16, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. in Council Chambers, 136 Spruce Avenue, Sparwood, BC, to consider Municipal Council’s recommendation to the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch (LCRB) regarding an application for a non-medical cannabis retail store licence in the District of Sparwood.
The District of Sparwood is excited to accept submissions for the 2021 Street Art Banner Program.
The 2021/2022 Columbia Basin Trust (the Trust) Community Initiatives (CIP) and Affected Areas (AAP) Programs are now underway. The deadline to submit proposals for the 2021/2022 Program year to the Regional District of East Kootenay is 2:00 pm on Monday, January 18, 2021.
Council Facts is a publication by the District of Sparwood which summarizes the key decisions of Council. Council meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month, unless otherwise changed or cancelled by resolution. The public is encouraged to attend regular Council, Committee of the Whole and Council Committee meetings. Copies of agenda packages and minutes are available online at www.Sparwood.ca.
