Youth Action Sparwood: Logo Contest & Survey

Youth Action Sparwood, or YAS, is all about youth-directed, community-supported events and programming for Sparwood teens aged 12 to 18. We are an initiative of the District of Sparwood, supported by funds from the Columbia Basin Trust. We are overseen by the Youth Advisory Commission.

Everything the coordinator does is overseen by three energetic and wise youth advisors who serve on the Commission. It's revolutionary to have teen bosses. Not kidding.

We have been talking to teens about what activities and events they want in Sparwood. SD5 has been wonderfully helpful and welcoming to us as we visit the school and get to know what Sparwood youth want.

If you parent or know a teen, please forward this survey to them and let them know that their participation will bring more events and activities into their lives. We tried to make it quick and easy—it's just ten questions that they can do it on their smartphones or on a computer. It's anonymous, too. (It works only once per device, though).

More highlights:

  1. We are seeking social media interns aged 12 to 18. Contact to set up an interview. Youth and all Sparwood folk are invited to connect with us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
  2. We are hosting a logo contest. The winning contestant will get $100. Be on the lookout for posters. For complete rules and submission guidelines email
  3. Any youth needing volunteer hours for school should be in touch. We will connect them with meaningful and fun work at upcoming community events.
