Category 2 Open Burning Ban

Effective at noon Mountain Time on Friday, August 2, 2019, Category 2 open burning will be prohibited within the District of Sparwood. The implementation of this prohibition, which is consistent with the one issued by BC Wildfire Service Southeast Fire Centre, will help prevent wildfires sparked by Category 2 open burns and to protect public safety. It will remain in place until the public is otherwise notified.

Campfires prohibited throughout the District of Sparwood

Effective at noon Mountain time on Thursday, July 26, 2018, campfires will be prohibited throughout the Southeast Fire Centre, including the District of Sparwood, to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.

This campfire ban will remain in place until the public is otherwise notified.

Category 2 open burning prohibited

The District of Sparwood has implemented a Category 2 open burn prohibition until further notice.

SLASH PILE BURNING TO TAKE PLACE ON MIDDLETOWN SITE

In preparation for the work to commence on the Middletown – Highway 3/43 Intersection Improvements project, Fiorentino Bros Contracting Ltd will soon be burning the remaining slash piles from the 2017 clearing for BC Hydro’s Access Trail.  As such, there will be smoke created, and we ask residents not to be alarmed.

Off-road vehicles restricted in backcountry!

Effective at noon (Pacific time) on Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, the operation of any offroad vehicle for recreational purposes on Crown land will be prohibited throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre, Kamloops Fire Centre and Southeast Fire Centre. This includes Sparwood and the Elk Valley. In addition, all on-highway vehicles must remain on defined road surfaces. View the official news release here.

Fireworks Prohibited in SE Fire Centre

The District of Sparwood would like to remind residents, that as part of the Southeast Fire Centre, the use of fireworks is currently banned.
