The District of Sparwood is seeking feedback on the 2020-2024 Financial Plan during two community events held March 4 and 5, 2020. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.
The District of Sparwood is pleased to introduce the Volunteer Organization Achievement Award - a new initiative intended to recognize and commend local volunteer groups. The award, which seeks nominations from the community will culminate in a recognition ceremony during the annual Volunteer Appreciation Day Celebration, taking place on May 3, 2020 with a $500 donation award being presented to one group.
The District of Sparwood is inviting residents to help decide the future of Centennial Square during the Winter Street Party community engagement event. The party will take place on February 6th from 4 pm to 6 pm in the Square. Those attending can expect an opportunity to learn and discuss the concept plan and features with Council and Staff, as well as enjoy a free smokie roast, marshmallows and hot chocolate.
Come join the local Fire Department for some fun and test your skills during their Open House on October 8th from 6 to 8:30 pm at Fire Station #1, located at 479 Pine Avenue.
Learn what has been accomplished this year and what is planned for the future! Share your thoughts on issues that matter to you and the community at the upcoming Town Hall Meeting taking place on October 10th from 6 - 8 pm at the Seniors Drop-In Center at 101 Pine Ave.
The third and final survey for the Livability Study is now available! Fill it out here. We need your responses to help complete the best measurement of quality of life in Sparwood! The data from this survey will be combined with data collected from other sources to produce a baseline snapshot of quality of life in Sparwood. The survey is open until July 26.

The District of Sparwood is preparing a cemetery master plan for Elk Valley (Michel) and Rivercrest cemeteries to enhance the aesthetics, functionality and expand the range of interment options to better serve the community. A brief survey has been released to obtain more information from the public.

Teck has released the Socio-Community and Economic Effects Annual Report for the Baldy Ridge Extension and scheduled an annual meeting for the project. The Livability Study has entered its second phase and new information and opportunities to engage with the project are out now!

It’s that time of year again! We are challenging local clubs, workplaces and families to come out to the Sparwood Leisure Centre Playground on Saturday, May 4, to help clean up the garbage that has accumulated throughout the winter.

Council invites and encourages the public to attend and provide feedback that will assist Council in setting priorities for our community.

The RDEK is currently reviewing its Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP). They are asking for the public's input on how they use the current solid waste and recycling systems and what they'd like to see in the future. Survey deadline is February 25, 2019.

From January 15 - February 28, 2019 the District will be seeking resident, worker and visitor participation in engagement activities related to the livability study. Participate through an online survey, visit a pop-up office, attend a workshop or stop in at our booth at Winterfest!
Clean Air Bylaw 1229, 2018 governs where tobacco and cannabis smoking and vaping will be allowed in Sparwood.
Council wants to hear from you as we consider if we need to amend the bylaw so that it reflects the current community views on smoking in public places. A short survey poll has been created to get input from the community on smoking and vaping in public places.

The District of Sparwood is recruiting members to a new advisory committee to council that will help better understand and guide the management of impacts on the community from Baldy Ridge Extension at Teck’s Elkview Operations.
