Dumping residential waste into commercial waste bins is not only unacceptable, it is ILLEGAL. It is a safety and health hazard that spoils the environment and costs us all. Please dispose of your waste properly by taking it to the Transfer Station, located at 1001 Highway 3.

Highway 3 between Sparwood and the Alberta border remains closed and the estimated time of reopening is unknown at this time according to DriveBC. Highway 3 between Fernie and Elko because of a high avalanche hazard also closed during the night.
Due to the extreme weather conditions today all waste pick-up scheduled for commercial properties, Lodgepole Trailer Court, and Matevic Road will not be picked up today. The District will make every effort to get to these areas tomorrow.
The Regional District of East Kootenay issued a media release today in response to the heavy snowfall and continued travel and weather advisories.
A Warming Centre has been opened at the Fire Hall, located at 479 Pine Avenue, for motorists who have been stranded due to Highway 3 road closure.
Highway 3 remains closed in both directions from Sparwood to the Alberta border because of limited visibility with heavy snowfall. Residents are urged to stay home and not travel as there is a chance that the highway will remain closed all night.
