Thanksgiving Day Garbage Schedule

There will be no garbage pickup on Thanksgiving Day, Monday October 9th, 2017. Garbage that is normally picked up on the Monday will be picked up on Tuesday, October 10th, 2017.

Notice of Permissive Tax Exemption Bylaw

Take Notice, that Council of the District of Sparwood will be considering Permissive Tax Exemption Bylaw 1156, 2014, Amendment Bylaw 1209, 2017 to exempt additional properties from taxation in accordance with sections 224 of the Community Charter.

Fire Ban Rescinded

Take note! The municipal fire ban will be rescinded as of 4 PM today (September 22). Note that backyard fire pits do require a permit that can be obtained from the Main Office at 136 Spruce Avenue. More information available here: http://sparwood.ca/burning-permits

Information Bulletin: Off-road vehicle prohibitions rescinded throughout B.C.

The operation of off-road vehicles will once again be permitted on Crown land throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre, Kamloops Fire Centre and Southeast Fire Centre, effective at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017. The campfire prohibitions remain in effect throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre, Kamloops Fire Centre and Southeast Fire Centre. View the information bulletin here.

Note that some area restrictions are still in effect on Crown land in the vicinity of large wildfires in the Cariboo Fire Centre, Kamloops Fire Centre and Southeast Fire Centre. Please visit the BC Wildfire Service website to see where these restrictions still apply. 

Elk River Shoreline Clean-Up

Sunday, October 1st, 1-4 pm

Join the Elk River Alliance at the 7th Annual Elk River Shoreline Clean-up! Meet at the Sparwood Leisure Centre, adopt a site, clean it up and participate in a volunteer appreciation event!

Sparwood Trails Re-opened!

As of 6:00 p.m. on September 15, 2017, all Sparwood trails are open for public use.

Information Bulletin: Rocky Mountain Forest District restrictions amended.

Due to recent changes in weather and fire behaviour, the closure of the Rocky Mountain Forest District will be rescinded effective at noon Pacific time on Friday, Sept. 15, 2017.

The current hot, dry and windy conditions have caused an increase in fire behaviour for some modified response fires burning in the east Kootenay. This information bulletin is an update on the status of the fires in the east Kootenay as of September 5, 2017.

Information Bulletin: Back-country Closure

Effective at noon Pacific Time on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, all Crown land within the Rocky Mountain Natural Resource District is closed to public access due to the extreme fire danger rating, the number of unprecedented aggressive wildfires throughout the region and moderate winds forecasted over the next few days.

The District is advising residents that there will be no garbage pick up on Labour Day, Monday September 4, 2017. Garbage that is normally picked up on the Monday will be picked up on Tuesday, September 5, 2017.

Information Bulletin: Road Closure for White River Complex wildfire

Effective immediately (Aug. 18, 2017) this closure applies to the White River Forest Service Road starting at the 32-kilometre mark and the White-East Fork Forest Service Road starting at the 60-kilometre mark. This means that no vehicles are permitted on these sections of road apart from industrial traffic.

BC Wildfire Service is reminding boaters to stay clear of firefighting aircraft

BC Wildfire Service is reminding the public that they must stay clear of firefighting aircraft that are collecting water from lakes in the region, including Moyie Lake, Lake Koocanusa and Premier Lake.

In addition, all on-highway vehicles must remain on defined road surfaces.

The Pool and Leisure Centre are closed Monday August 7th, 2017 for the BC Day Stat Holiday.
