District of Sparwood will continue to collect cash donations (cheque, debit, visa gift cards, etc.) up until September 15, 2018 for the residents of Ponderosa Manor who lost their home in the August 9 fire. Donations will then be disbursed based upon greatest need.

We know you’re excited for the new Sparwood Skate Park, but we want to remind everyone that is not quite complete! Everyone must stay out of the fenced off construction area until it is finished
There will be landscaping work happening this weekend and hydroseeding next week and we are imploring our eager skate community to hold off just a little bit longer.
The evacuation ALERT for the Corbin area has been rescinded for 10 properties in the community of Corbin and Teck’s Coal Mountain Mine property.
The BC Wildfire Service is reporting the fire is 95% guarded and being held. It remains estimated at 30 hectares in size.

The Pool will be closed Monday August 27, Tuesday August 28, and possibly Wednesday August 29, due to replacement of the primary electrical panel in the pool mechanical room.
The fitness room, courts, climbing wall and other areas of the facility will remain open.

Officials with the District of Sparwood and Emergency Support Services (ESS) are asking anyone displaced by the overnight fire in Sparwood Heights to register at the ESS Reception Centre.
Garbage that is normally collected on Monday, August 6, 2018 will be collected on Tuesday, August 7, 2018.
Reminder that there is still a campfire and open fire ban throughout the Southeast Fire Centre and District of Sparwood.

Effective at noon Mountain time on Thursday, July 26, 2018, campfires will be prohibited throughout the Southeast Fire Centre, including the District of Sparwood, to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.
This campfire ban will remain in place until the public is otherwise notified.
The District of Sparwood has implemented a Category 2 open burn prohibition until further notice.
There has been a significant increase in mosquito complaints this year. Our mosquito control contractor is monitoring all the regular sites every week and there has been little evidence of any significant quantities of larvae at all in almost all of them.
Reminder that property taxes are due by July 4.
You can pay in person at 136 Spruce Avenue, online through your bank, or by mailing a cheque (ensure we receive the cheque before July 4 to avoid the penalty, note that post marks will not be accepted as proof of payment date).
Make sure to claim your Home Owner Grant, even if you cannot fully pay your taxes, by July 4 as after this date a 10% penalty will be added to all unpaid taxes from the current year.

The District of Sparwood is recruiting members to a new advisory committee to council that will help better understand and guide the management of impacts on the community from Baldy Ridge Extension at Teck’s Elkview Operations.
The District of Sparwood is seeking residents input into the recreational use and sale of cannabis in Sparwood. The information you provide will help Council determine the extent to which the District will regulate the location of retail stores (including setting distance requirements between cannabis retail stores and schools, daycares and other land uses); personal cultivation; commercial production; consumption on municipal property and public places; and whether to impose security requirements and additional restrictions on the hours of operation.
