The B.C. government has declared a provincial state of emergency to support the provincewide response to the ongoing wildfire situation.

Pool Closure

Pool Closure

The Pool will be closed Monday August 27, Tuesday August 28, and possibly Wednesday August 29, due to replacement of the primary electrical panel in the pool mechanical room. 
The fitness room, courts, climbing wall and other areas of the facility will remain open.
Thank you for your patience while we make these necessary repairs.

Sparwood Heights Fire

Update: 11:30am: We first want to thank all emergency personnel and volunteers who responded (and are still responding) to this incident for their hard work and dedication. Our community is amazing.

Residents Affected by Sparwood Heights Fire Asked to Register with ESS

Officials with the District of Sparwood and Emergency Support Services (ESS) are asking anyone displaced by the overnight fire in Sparwood Heights to register at the ESS Reception Centre.

BC Day (Aug. 6/2018) Hours of Operation & Garbage Schedule

The Pool and Leisure Centre, District Municipal Office, and Operations are CLOSED Monday August 6, 2018 for BC Day.

Garbage that is normally collected on Monday, August 6, 2018 will be collected on Tuesday, August 7, 2018. 

Reminder that there is still a campfire and open fire ban throughout the Southeast Fire Centre and District of Sparwood.

Campfires prohibited throughout the District of Sparwood

Effective at noon Mountain time on Thursday, July 26, 2018, campfires will be prohibited throughout the Southeast Fire Centre, including the District of Sparwood, to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.

This campfire ban will remain in place until the public is otherwise notified.

Category 2 open burning prohibited

The District of Sparwood has implemented a Category 2 open burn prohibition until further notice.

2018 Mosquito Control Update

There has been a significant increase in mosquito complaints this year. Our mosquito control contractor is monitoring all the regular sites every week and there has been little evidence of any significant quantities of larvae at all in almost all of them.

Off-Leash Dog Park Location Survey

The Dog Park Working Group is seeking input from the public on their preferences between two possible locations for an off-leash dog park in Sparwood. You can complete the survey here.

2018 Property Taxes Due July 4

Reminder that property taxes are due by July 4. 

You can pay in person at 136 Spruce Avenue, online through your bank, or by mailing a cheque (ensure we receive the cheque before July 4 to avoid the penalty, note that post marks will not be accepted as proof of payment date). 

Make sure to claim your Home Owner Grant, even if you cannot fully pay your taxes, by July 4 as after this date a 10% penalty will be added to all unpaid taxes from the current year.

Temporary Pedestrian Detour - Highway 43

This is to advise that the Pedestrian Crosswalk on Highway #43 near Aspen Drive has been closed until construction of the new pedestrian controls for the Middletown Highway 3/43 Intersection Improvements Project are completed.

Volunteers Wanted: Advisory Committee

The District of Sparwood is recruiting members to a new advisory committee to council that will help better understand and guide the management of impacts on the community from Baldy Ridge Extension at Teck’s Elkview Operations.

Survey on the recreational use and sale of cannabis

The District of Sparwood is seeking residents input into the recreational use and sale of cannabis in Sparwood.  The information you provide will help Council determine the extent to which the District will regulate the location of retail stores (including setting distance requirements between cannabis retail stores and schools, daycares and other land uses); personal cultivation; commercial production; consumption on municipal property and public places; and whether to impose security requirements and additional restrictions on the hours of operation.

2017 Carbon Action Revenue Incentive Program (CARIP) Climate Action/Carbon Neutral Progress Survey

The District of Sparwood has completed the 2017 Climate Action Revenue Incentive Program (CARIP) Public Report as required by the Province of BC. The CARIP Report summarizes the actions taken in 2017 and those proposed for 2018 to reduce corporate and community‐wide energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) and reports on progress towards achieving carbon neutrality. 

Sprinkling Regulations

A reminder that the District of Sparwood sprinkling regulations are in effect from June 1 through September 30 each year to promote water conservation.

The wait is over! The Weight Room is now available for 24 hour access A waiver MUST be signed prior to use.

Victoria Day Garbage Schedule Change

Please note that there will be NO GARBAGE PICKUP on the VICTORIA DAY STATUTORY HOLIDAY, Monday MAY 21st, 2018. 

Garbage that is normally picked up on the Monday will be picked up on Tuesday MAY 22nd, 2018.

The second quarter utility bills have been delayed due to an unexpected delay with bill printing. Bills are expected to be delivered mid-week during the week of May 7, 2018.
