Donations for the evacuees of the Sparwood Heights fire

4:27 PM:  The Elk Valley Thrift Shop Society has generously offered to match donations towards the residents of Building B who were impacted by Thursday night's fire to a maximum of $10,000. Cash donations (cheque, debit, visa cards, etc.) will be received by the District of the Sparwood and turned over to a local non-profit for disbursement.  Funds will be provided in priority of need.

Thank you to everyone who donated clothing and accessories. No additional clothing or personal items are needed. The donation centre set up in the curling lounge will remain open until 6:00 pm Saturday and then again on Sunday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm so that residents in need can pick up supplies such as clothing, shoes, toiletries, bedding and pet food.

CORRECTION to the 7:30 pm update on Friday, August 10, 2018: Residents in Building D have hot water in their units, the hot water impacted by the fire is related to the boiler which provides heating during winter months.
