Hwy 3 between Sparwood and Alberta border remains closed

Highway 3 between Sparwood and the Alberta border remains closed and the estimated time of reopening is unknown at this time according to DriveBC.  Highway 3 between Fernie and Elko because of a high avalanche hazard also closed during the night.

Warming Centres at the Fire Hall (479 Pine Avenue) and the Leisure Centre (367 Pine Avenue) will remain open until the highway reopens. Visibility remains poor and residents are advised not to travel.

    A Warming Centre has been opened at the Fire Hall, located at 479 Pine Avenue, for motorists who have been stranded due to Highway 3 road closure.

    Highway 3 remains closed in both directions from Sparwood to the Alberta border because of limited visibility with heavy snowfall. Residents are urged to stay home and not travel as there is a chance that the highway will remain closed all night.
