Both the Regional District of East Kootenay and the District of Sparwood have issued an evacuation orders for properties on Corbin Road and the Coal Mountain mine property as a result of a lightning caused fire in Leach Creek. The evacuation order has been issued as the fire, which is currently estimated at 30 hectares in size, is burning in the vicinity of Corbin Road.
A reception station has been set up at the intersection of Corbin Road and Highway 3 and all residents are being asked to register there. Permanent residents are being redirected to the Leisure Centre until it is safe to return home. Visitors or vacation home owners should return to their primary residence.
