The District of Sparwood is preparing a cemetery master plan for Elk Valley (Michel) and Rivercrest cemeteries to enhance the aesthetics, functionality and expand the range of interment options to better serve the community.
The District of Sparwood commissioned LEES+Associates Cemetery Planners to prepare a Cemetery Master Plan for Elk Valley (Michel) Cemetery and Rivercrest Cemetery. To view their presentation from the June 4, 2019 Regular Council Meeting, click here: Sparwood Cemetery Master Plan Presentation.
An online survey was undertaken and closed on June 28th, to gather all of the data.
The District owns two cemeteries Rivercrest Cemetery to the north, and Elk Valley (Michel) Cemetery to the south. The District is looking at ways to enhance the appearance of the cemeteries and to diversify interment options available in order to better serve the needs of the community. Proposed improvements will be phased over multiple years:
Riverview Cemetery is the District’s main active cemetery. The fenced cemetery is only 50% developed. The other cemetery lands have not been developed. Click the image below for more information:
Elk Valley (Michel) Cemetery has been closed to new burials since 1983. The proposed concept plan will enhance the appearance of the developed part of the cemetery, and provide families with the opportunity to be buried at this cemetery. Click the image below for more information:
