Sparwood Heights Drive Temporary Closure

The District of Sparwood would like to advise residents that the municipality will be temporarily closing the gravel portion of Sparwood Heights Drive. To facilitate the installation of the watermain, the areas outlined in the mapin red will be closed to traffic on Sunday, September 8, 2019.

Annual General Meeting for June 25, 2019 @ 5:45 pm

CORRECTION to meeting start time.  The special meeting of Council on June 25, 2019 to consider the 2018 Annual Municipal Report and a closed matter under section 90(1)(j) of the Community Charter will begin at 5:45 pm. We apologize for any confusion which the incorrect start time on the agenda may have caused you.

Cemetery Master Plan Survey Released

The District of Sparwood is preparing a cemetery master plan for Elk Valley (Michel) and Rivercrest cemeteries to enhance the aesthetics, functionality and expand the range of interment options to better serve the community. A brief survey has been released to obtain more information from the public.

Reminder to Lock the Garbage Bins

The District of Sparwood would like to remind all residents on the importance of properly securing their garbage containers. Bears are actively on the prowl for food and unsecured garbage poses a severe risk for human-wildlife conflict.

Avalanche Warning issued by Avalanche Canada

Avalanche Canada , in partnership with Parks Canada and Alberta’s Kananaskis Country has issued a special public avalanche warning for recreational backcountry users.

Annual Building & Vacancy Reports Published

District staff have released the annual Vacancy Rate Report and Building Permit Reports. These reports detail the current residential vacancy rate and building permits issued in the previous year.

2019 - 2023 Financial Plan Open House

If you live in Sparwood, you are invited to a Public Budget Consultation Meeting that will be held to discuss the District’s Financial Plan for the next five years. Council invites and encourages the public to attend and provide feedback that will assist Council in setting priorities for our community.

New Procedure Bylaw 1245

Notice is hereby given that the Council for the District of Sparwood is proposing to replace its current Council Procedure Bylaw 1022, 2009, by adopting “Procedure Bylaw 1245, 2019” at their February 19, 2019 regular meeting.

Livability Workshops

We are holding two workshops for the Livability Study and you’re invited! You can register for either of two workshops: an afternoon workshop on Feb. 19 or an evening workshop on Feb 20. These workshops will be deeper dives into some of the data we have begun collecting from the questionnaire and interviews, and are a way to tell us more about livability if you didn’t get to say everything you wanted to say in the questionnaire. RDEK Solid Waste Management Plan Review

The RDEK is currently reviewing its Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP). They are asking for the public's input on how they use the current solid waste and recycling systems and what they'd like to see in the future.  Survey deadline is February 25, 2019.

Development Variance Permit 2019-001

Council for the District of Sparwood will at the Special Meeting at 6:00 p.m. on January 29, 2019 will consider Development Variance Permit 2019-001 for 319 Pacific Yew Crescent to increase the maximum site coverage for an accessory building to construct a detached garage.
