POSITION: Director of Corporate Services

The District of Sparwood, population approximately 4,000, is a growing community nestled in the heart of the Elk Valley in the south east corner of the Province. A vacancy exists for a qualified and experienced professional to join our management team as Director of Corporate Services.

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the successful applicant is responsible for directing and coordinating activities related to the statutory requirements of corporate administration as set out in the Community Charter. We are looking for a self-motivated individual to coordinate Council initiatives, draft bylaws, manage the Records Management system and supervise staff. This position also acts as the Emergency Program Coordinator and Head of FOIPPA. The ideal candidate will recognize the importance of building and maintaining positive relationships with Council, other department heads and the public. Superior communication skills, both written and oral are critical to this position.

This key statutory position is suited to an individual with at least five years of progressive experience in a local government setting. Applicants should have an equivalent combination of training and experience, complemented with a certificate and/or recognized course work in municipal/public administration. Extensive knowledge of contract and land administration are essential.

POSITION: Regular Part-Time Lifeguard / Instructor

DATE OF POSTING:  April 16, 2014 

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Performs a variety of general and specific duties related to the personal safety, of persons utilizing the District pool and pool related facilities and equipment. Supervises and ensures the safety of pool users in accordance with established safety guidelines, provides lifesaving skills including first aid, resuscitation and other emergency response; provides instruction of red cross & lifesaving society lessons, aqua-fit and other established programs as assigned. Provides and ensures proper day to day maintenance and cleanliness of pool and surrounding areas such as deck, changing rooms, water chemical and filtration systems, etc. Ensures safe and comfortable chemical balances are maintained. May be required to supervise and/or direct other Lifeguards and/or Instructors.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Grade 12 Dogwood certificate or equivalent
• Water Safety Instructor Certificate
• National Lifeguard Services Award
• Aquafit Instructor 
• Standard First Aid, CPR-C & AED

OTHER CERTIFICATIONS:

• Lifesaving Instructor
• Lifesaving Instructor Trainer
• NLS Instructor
• WSI Instructor
• Pool Operator I & II

EXPERIENCE:

• One or more years acting as Lifeguard/Instructor

RECREATION DEPARTMENT:

CASUAL ON CALL LIFEGUARD / INSTRUCTOR

NATURE OF POSTION:

Reporting to the Director of Community and Facility Services, Casual on Call Lifeguards/Instructors perform a variety of general and specific duties related to the personal safety of people utilizing the District pool and pool related facilities and equipment. Casual on Call Lifeguards/Instructors ensure the safety of pool users in accordance with established safety guidelines, provide lifesaving skills including first aid, resuscitation and other emergency revival techniques as required; train pool users of various ages in proper water safety, swimming and lifesaving techniques, maintain certification to various levels of established national swimming/lifesaving standards; and provide instruction and direction in aqua-fit and other established programs. Workers in this classification also provide and/or ensure proper day to day maintenance and cleanliness of the pool and surrounding areas such as deck, changing rooms, water chemical and filtration systems, etc., ensure safe and comfortable chemical balances are maintained and may be required to supervise and/or direct other Lifeguards and/or Instructors.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

National Lifeguard Services
Current First Aid and CPR – C/AED
