POSITION: Casual Clerk

CLOSING DATE:  Friday, August 29, 2014 at 4:00 PM.

NATURE OF POSITION:  Reporting to the Director of Finance, the District of Sparwood has an opening for a Casual Clerk. This casual position is on an on-call basis to cover absences due to illness, vacation, special leaves or any approved leave, to fill temporary vacancies, augment staffing levels during peak periods. This position may also be scheduled to provide on-call back-up to the Public Works Department.


  • ability to deal with the public both in person and by telephone in a courteous and effective manner;
  • excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word; 
  • familiar with other Microsoft Office and Adobe software products;
  • relevant accounting experience – ie. cash receipting, bank reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll;
  • good writing skills, ability to draft letters;
  • ability to work with minimal supervision is a necessity.

Wages and conditions of employment are governed by the current Collective Agreement with CUPE Local 2698 and would be at the Casual Clerk rate (currently $24.16 per hour).

Reporting to the Director of Community and Facility Services, Casual on Call Lifeguards/Instructors perform a variety of general and specific duties related to the personal safety of people utilizing the District pool and pool related facilities and equipment. Casual on Call Lifeguards/Instructors ensure the safety of pool users in accordance with established safety guidelines, provide lifesaving skills including first aid, resuscitation and other emergency revival techniques as required; train pool users of various ages in proper water safety, swimming and lifesaving techniques, maintain certification to various levels of established national swimming/lifesaving standards; and provide instruction and direction in aqua-fit and other established programs. Workers in this classification also provide and/or ensure proper day to day maintenance and cleanliness of the pool and surrounding areas such as deck, changing rooms, water chemical and filtration systems, etc., ensure safe and comfortable chemical balances are maintained and may be required to supervise and/or direct other Lifeguards and/or Instructors.

Current First Aid and CPR – C/AED
