Co-Op Engineering Student

The District of Sparwood is accepting applications for an engineering co-op student to work on a full time basis beginning January 2014. If you want practical, hands on, real time work experience that will enhance your post secondary education, the District of Sparwood is the place for you!

Projects the District of Sparwood are currently working on include: new subdivision development and servicing, construction of an new intersection, and preparation for an underground pedestrian tunnel.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills:

  • Knowledge and experience with AutoCAD and AutoCAD Map 3D
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Knowledge of Trimble GPS units
  • Knowledge of GIS
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work independently, with limited supervision
  • Knowledge of civil engineering construction principles and practices
  • Knowledge and experience with computers, Microsoft Office and related software
  • Must be detailed oriented with good oral and written skills
  • Organized, professional appearance, and able to maintain confidentiality
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License


Wages, benefits, and conditions of employment are governed by the current collective agreement with CUPE Local 2698. Recruitment will remain open until a successful candidate has been chosen.

Reporting to the Director of Community and Facility Services, Casual on Call Lifeguards/Instructors perform a variety of general and specific duties related to the personal safety of people utilizing the District pool and pool related facilities and equipment. Casual on Call Lifeguards/Instructors ensure the safety of pool users in accordance with established safety guidelines, provide lifesaving skills including first aid, resuscitation and other emergency revival techniques as required; train pool users of various ages in proper water safety, swimming and lifesaving techniques, maintain certification to various levels of established national swimming/lifesaving standards; and provide instruction and direction in aqua-fit and other established programs. Workers in this classification also provide and/or ensure proper day to day maintenance and cleanliness of the pool and surrounding areas such as deck, changing rooms, water chemical and filtration systems, etc., ensure safe and comfortable chemical balances are maintained and may be required to supervise and/or direct other Lifeguards and/or Instructors.
