STUDENT EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES: 

Administrative Assistant

The District of Sparwood is looking for an energetic and enthusiastic Administrative Assistant Student who will be employed for the summer by the District of Sparwood beginning May 4, 2015 to August 28, 2015. The rate of pay is in accordance with CUPE Local 2698 Collective Agreement.

All applications including cover letter, resume, and proof of enrolment must be received by the District of Sparwood Municipal Office on or before 4:00 pm Friday, March 27, 2015. Applicants should be aware that work performance with the District of Sparwood will be considered for future employment.

Only students who have been enrolled on a full time basis in high school or a post secondary institution during the 2015 Winter/Spring term and are intending to return to school in the fall are eligible for these positions. Student application forms, including proof of enrollment, are available at the Municipal Office, 136 Spruce Avenue, the Sparwood Recreation Department, 367 Pine Avenue or on the District website at www.Sparwood.ca. The proof of enrollment form must be signed by the school Registrar’s Office. Preference will be given to post secondary students residing within the District of Sparwood.

All successful applicants will be required to have a valid driver’s license with a Class 5 or a minimum of a Class 7N or Class 7L. Applicants’ address must be the same on their Driver’s License as on their mailing address and permanent address in Sparwood.

Parks and Greenbelt Workers

The District of Sparwood is looking for energetic and enthusiastic students who will be employed for the summer by the District of Sparwood to work as summer parks and greenbelt workers beginning May 4, 2015 to August 28, 2015. The rate of pay is in accordance with CUPE Local 2698 Collective Agreement.

All applications including cover letter, resume, and proof of enrolment must be received by the District of Sparwood Municipal Office on or before 4:00 pm Friday, March 27, 2015. The ‘hat’ draw will be conducted on Monday, March 30, 2015. All successful applicants will be contacted following the draw. Applicants should be aware that work performance with the District of Sparwood will be considered for future employment.

Any eligible applications received after the close date, will be automatically put on the bottom of this list as well as any who are unable to start employment on May 4, 2015.

CASUAL ON CALL LIFEGUARD / INSTRUCTOR

NATURE OF POSTION:

Reporting to the Director of Community and Facility Services, Casual on Call Lifeguards/Instructors perform a variety of general and specific duties related to the personal safety of people utilizing the District pool and pool related facilities and equipment. Casual on Call Lifeguards/Instructors ensure the safety of pool users in accordance with established safety guidelines, provide lifesaving skills including first aid, resuscitation and other emergency revival techniques as required; train pool users of various ages in proper water safety, swimming and lifesaving techniques, maintain certification to various levels of established national swimming/lifesaving standards; and provide instruction and direction in aqua-fit and other established programs. Workers in this classification also provide and/or ensure proper day to day maintenance and cleanliness of the pool and surrounding areas such as deck, changing rooms, water chemical and filtration systems, etc., ensure safe and comfortable chemical balances are maintained and may be required to supervise and/or direct other Lifeguards and/or Instructors.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Grade 12 Dogwood certification or equivalency
Water Safety Instructor
National Lifeguard Services
Current First Aid and CPR – C/AED

Pay Rate: Casual On Call Lifeguard/Instructor rate as per CUPE Collective Agreement. Benefits and conditions of employment are governed by the current collective agreement with CUPE Local 2698.
