RECREATION MAINTENANCE 1

NATURE OF POSITION:

Under the direction of the Director of Community & Facility Services the Recreation Maintenance 1 performs a variety of general and specific labour type tasks requiring agility and physical effort related to the operation and maintenance of the Sparwood Leisure Centre. The successful candidate will be responsible for janitorial services, facility maintenance, maintaining of the arena physical plant, leisure pool filtration systems, parks and other recreation facilities including carpentry and plumbing work. Other duties include installing and maintaining ice surfaces, general work on HVAC and DHW supply systems, horticultural work, servicing and maintaining sports fields, walking trails and related recreation areas and equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for shovelling and removing snow; cutting grass; inspecting facilities and equipment; preparing required reports and performing other duties as assigned.

LIFEGUARD/INSTRUCTOR II (PART-TIME)

NATURE OF POSITION:

Reporting to the Director of Community & Facility Services, lifeguard/instructor II are responsible for the safe supervision of the public in the aquatics centre. The incumbent supervises and ensures the safety of pool users in accordance with established safety guidelines, performs lifesaving duties including first aid, resuscitation and other emergency revival techniques as required; instructs pool users of various ages in proper water safety, swimming and lifesaving techniques, test and certifies as qualified to various levels of established national swimming/lifesaving standards; leads aqua-fit, lifesaving and other aquatic programs. Conducts day to day maintenance and janitorial duties relating to the pool and surrounding areas such as deck, changing rooms, water chemical and filtration systems, etc.

CASUAL ON CALL LIFEGUARD / INSTRUCTOR

NATURE OF POSTION:

Reporting to the Director of Community and Facility Services, Casual on Call Lifeguards/Instructors perform a variety of general and specific duties related to the personal safety of people utilizing the District pool and pool related facilities and equipment. Casual on Call Lifeguards/Instructors ensure the safety of pool users in accordance with established safety guidelines, provide lifesaving skills including first aid, resuscitation and other emergency revival techniques as required; train pool users of various ages in proper water safety, swimming and lifesaving techniques, maintain certification to various levels of established national swimming/lifesaving standards; and provide instruction and direction in aqua-fit and other established programs. Workers in this classification also provide and/or ensure proper day to day maintenance and cleanliness of the pool and surrounding areas such as deck, changing rooms, water chemical and filtration systems, etc., ensure safe and comfortable chemical balances are maintained and may be required to supervise and/or direct other Lifeguards and/or Instructors.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Grade 12 Dogwood certification or equivalency
Water Safety Instructor
National Lifeguard Services
Current First Aid and CPR – C/AED

Pay Rate: Casual On Call Lifeguard/Instructor rate as per CUPE Collective Agreement. Benefits and conditions of employment are governed by the current collective agreement with CUPE Local 2698.
