I feel very honoured to have been elected to the office of Mayor for the District of Sparwood in the Municipal election of November, 2011. I served the community in the role of Councillor for the previous term.  Before becoming involved in local government, I had a 29 year career in the Public Service by providing Community Health Nursing services to the residents of Sparwood and the Elk Valley. I was privileged to visit new parents and babies, to immunize most residents living here in Sparwood and to provide health teaching to a wide range of community groups. Participating on inter-discipline committees and assisting indiviuals has put me in touch with the life of our town. My involvement with the Health Unit's Healthy Community initiatives now has a direct overlap to my involvement in municipal government. Having been involved with the public on a daily basis, I look forward to continuing that connection and to bringing comments and concerns forward. The municipal political level is the one closest to the people and the one likely to be most important to them. Our local Council is also most likely to impact and to improve people's lives. It is my hope that together, we can enhance this beautiful community and make it a safe and an appealing place to live for a lifetime.

My family roots go back 105 years in this community. I was born in Natal and graduated from Sparwood Secondary School. For 12 years following, I studied nursing and worked in numerous cities across Canada. Upon returning in 1971, I married and happily raised my two children here. I have a large extended family and a great many interests some of which include a book club, the CWL, swimming, travel, writing and spending as much time as possible with my six delightful grandchildren who are all under ten years of age!
