Formal consultation is the first step in the planning application process

Prior to submitting an application, property owners or developers are required to attend a meeting with Planning staff.  This meeting will provide an opportunity for you to meet with staff and outside agencies to better understand the land use standards and expectations.

Construction and renovation work in Sparwood is regulated by local bylaws and guidelines, including:

Permits and regulations

Building permits and regulations are enforced by the District of Sparwood to ensure safety and livability for you, your neighbours, and future property owners and residents.

To keep Sparwood safe and livable, we:

  • Review permit applications and enforce regulations in a fair and consistent manner;
  • Are working hard to decrease the length and complexity of the permit process by introducing online services and more efficient processes; and
  • Enforce procedures to protect historic buildings and our urban forest during development and renovations.
How we can help you

Trying to avoid getting a permit to save money can end up costing you time and money.  If you are unsure whether or not you need a permit, call the Planning Department at 250.425.6271.
