Notice of Half-Masting

The Sparwood Fire Service would like to send our condolences to Captain Murrell’s family and our Brother Fire Fighters at the Cranbrook Fire Department.

Occasion :
Death of Captain Clayton Murrell from the Cranbrook Fire Department, British Columbia, who passed away on February 3, 2018 as the result of a motor vehicle incident. Captain Murrell was a 25-year member with the Cranbrook Fire Department.

BC Family Day Garbage Pickup

Please note that there will be no garbage pickup on the BC Family Day statutory holiday - Monday, February 12th, 2018. Garbage that is normally picked up on the Monday will instead be picked up on Tuesday, February 13th, 2018.

Please note that the Total 2018 Rate for Apartment/Strata Condo** on the back of your utility bills does NOT include your Garbage rate. Please contact our office at 250-425-6271 to get the correct rate for your property if paying for the year.

Municipal Land Disposition Policy

At their meeting on December 18, 2017, Council of the District of Sparwood adopted a new policy, the Municipal Land Disposition Policy, to guide decisions about the sale of municipal land. This policy specifically applies to cases where property owners submit a request to the District to purchase adjacent municipal land.

2018 Utilities - Pay Early and Save!

Section 6 (a) and (b) of the Utility and Solid Waste Management Bylaw 1014, 2009 enables the District of Sparwood to apply a discount for property owners on water, sewer and garbage rates when making a payment in January or before the end of each quarter.

Proposed Zoning Bylaw Amendment: Changes to the Light Industrial M-1 Zone

A Public Hearing will be held on Monday, December 4, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in Council Chambers, 136 Spruce Avenue, Sparwood, BC, to consider a proposed amendment to the District of Sparwood “Zoning Bylaw No. 264 1981”.

In general terms, Bylaw 1213 cited as "Zoning Bylaw No. 264, 1981 Amendment Bylaw 1213, 2017” will remove offices as a principal use in the Light Industrial zone. Offices will still be permitted as accessory uses. This will not prohibit any existing office uses in this zone from continuing to exist.

Capital Budget Discussions Tonight

Council will be discussing the proposed capital budget expenditures for the 2018-2022 Financial Plan (the “Plan”) at the Committee of the Whole meeting on Monday, November 27, 2017 at 7pm in Council Chambers. They will have the opportunity to review and adjust the Plan to ensure that it is in line with their strategic goals and objectives.

Media Release: Sparwood is Drilling for Water

The District of Sparwood has commenced work on locating a new community drinking water supply, near Cummings Creek. Work is proceeding, funded by Teck, in consultation with the Interior Health Authority and regulations of the Ministry of Environment & Climate Change Strategy.

Notice of Disposition: a Portion of Lot 245, along Pine Avenue

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN of the District of Sparwood’s intention to consider the DISPOSITION OF A PORTION of Lot 245, District Lot 4589, Kootenay District Plan 6786 by way of sale agreement between the District of Sparwood and Larry and Sandra Henriet, owners of 458 Pine Avenue.

This will be considered at the regular Council meeting at 7:00 pm on November 20, 2017.

Remembrance Day Garbage Pick Up

Please take note that there will be no garbage pickup on Friday, November 10, 2017, to observe the Remembrance Day statutory holiday. Garbage that is normally picked up on the Friday will be picked up on Thursday, November 9, 2017.

Notice: Potential Water Shut Off October 23

*UPDATE* The water service repairs are now complete.

Residents please note that water may be shut off for a short period of time between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on October 23, 2017. This is for repairs to the water services in the affected areas. This affects areas in Cherrywood, parts of Cypress Drive, and all of Whiskey Jack.

Notice to Bidders: LiDAR and Aerial Imagery

The District of Sparwood is accepting proposals for LiDAR and Aerial Imagery. Proposals for this project will be received by email, in PDF file format to bids@sparwood.ca, clearly marked with the name and address of the proponent in the body of the email with the subject line: “REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS FOR: LIDAR & AERIAL IMAGERY- SPARWOOD”, addressed to DANNY DWYER, DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING no later than 13:59:59 (MDT), MONDAY October 23rd, 2017 (the “Closing Deadline”).
