Special meeting to consider adoption of bylaw amendment to increase garbage volume limit and award contract for residential waste collection.
NOTICE is hereby given that Council will be considering adoption of Council Procedure Bylaw 1022, 2009, Amendment Bylaw 1220, 2018 at the March 19, 2018 regular meeting. This amendment proposes to change the month under section 9(1) from December to November and the term from three years to four years for when a Councillor is to be designated to act as Mayor when the Mayor absent or unable to act.
A public hearing has been scheduled for March 19, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in Council chambers. The subject of this hearing is a proposed amendment to the M-1 Light Industrial zone to change the way offices are regulated in that zone.
This amendment has been discussed at Council and a previous public hearing dated December 4, 2017. There have been changes to the wording of the bylaw, requiring a second public hearing.

Avalanche Canada issued a Special Public Avalanche Warning for recreational backcountry users, in effect immediately until the end of the day Monday, February 12. The warning applies to the following regions: Lizard Range & Flathead, South Rockies, Purcells, Kootenay Boundary, South & North Columbia, Cariboos, and North Rockies. The Public Hearing regarding the proposed amendment to the M-1 Light Industrial zone which began on December 4, 2017 has been adjourned to reconvene at the regular meeting on January 15, 2018, at 7:00pm in Council Chambers, to provide District staff with additional time to consult with property owners that may be impacted by the proposed change and obtain their feedback on the new options for Council’s consideration.
A Public Hearing will be held on Monday, December 4, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in Council Chambers, 136 Spruce Avenue, Sparwood, BC, to consider a proposed amendment to the District of Sparwood “Zoning Bylaw No. 264 1981”.
In general terms, Bylaw 1213 cited as "Zoning Bylaw No. 264, 1981 Amendment Bylaw 1213, 2017” will remove offices as a principal use in the Light Industrial zone. Offices will still be permitted as accessory uses. This will not prohibit any existing office uses in this zone from continuing to exist.

The District of Sparwood is seeking the public's feedback on Cemetery Management Bylaw 1017. The new bylaw, if adopted, will replace Rivercrest Cemetery Bylaw 877 and Elk Valley (Michel) Cemetery Operation and Maintenance Bylaw 831. Changes include the prohibition against pets being permitted in either cemetery, larger floral receptacles in Rivercrest Cemetery, regulations surrounding adornments at Rivercrest Cemetery, and updates to the fees and charges for both cemeteries.

The District of Sparwood has initiated an Alternate Approval Process, otherwise known as a counter-petition, to obtain elector approval to enter into a 10-Year Lease Agreement with School District #5 for 1351 Ponderosa Drive for the installation of a multi-use outdoor facility to replace the tennis and basketball courts located in the Cherrywood subdivision.
