The evacuation ALERT for the Corbin area has been rescinded for 10 properties in the community of Corbin and Teck’s Coal Mountain Mine property.
The BC Wildfire Service is reporting the fire is 95% guarded and being held. It remains estimated at 30 hectares in size.

The evacuation ORDER for the Corbin area has been downgraded to an evacuation ALERT for 10 properties in the community of Corbin and Teck’s Coal Mountain Mine property.
Emergency Management BC (EMBC) approved an extension of the 72-hour emergency social services assistance for the evacuees from Ponderosa Manor, building B, in Sparwood Heights. This extension will expire on August 15, 2018 at which time the Red Cross will step in and provide whatever assistance they are able to assist residents with their recovery.
The District of Sparwood has issued an evacuation order for properties on Corbin Road and the Coal Mountain mine property.
4:27 PM: The Elk Valley Thrift Shop Society has generously offered to match donations towards the residents of Building B who were impacted by Thursday night's fire to a maximum of $10,000. Cash donations (cheque, debit, visa cards, etc.) will be received by the District of the Sparwood and turned over to a local non-profit for disbursement. Funds will be provided in priority of need.
The District is calling upon all property managers and owners in the Elk Valley to contact us if you have any rental properties available that could be rented out on a short or long-term basis.
Reception Centre is closed and will re-open on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at 8:00 and will remain open until 6:00 pm.

Officials with the District of Sparwood and Emergency Support Services (ESS) are asking anyone displaced by the overnight fire in Sparwood Heights to register at the ESS Reception Centre.
Update 6:05 pm: Mayor McDougall extends the District's appreciation to firefighters and community volunteers from around the Elk Valley for their support and assistance during this tragedy.
Update 7:30pm: Residents of Ponderosa Manor Apartment Buildings A, C & D are now all able to go back into their units however the units in Building D will not have hot water for the next two days.
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Council of the District of Sparwood will at the Regular Meeting of August 20, 2018 consider a resolution to enter into a partnering agreement with Teck Coal Limited for the placement of an air monitoring station for Teck, with permission for the installation of camera equipment owned by the District on the terms and conditions contained in the agreement, for a sum of $10.00.

The District of Sparwood has completed the 2017 Climate Action Revenue Incentive Program (CARIP) Public Report as required by the Province of BC.
